Consultant / Interreligious Advocacy
The Rev. Jamie L. Hamilton
Fulbright Scholar
As Fulbright Scholar in Sicily, with a team of Italian teachers from Istituto Italian di Cultura, we established Projetto Speciale: new methodologies for Italian instructors who were teaching English as a foreign language. Our findings were published by Italy’s Ministry of Education.
Visiting Priest
As Visiting Priest in Pholela, KwaZulu, Natal, South Africa, along with the Rev. Dr. Gideon Khabela, the Chaplain to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, I taught and preached for 25 remote outstations, rural villages along the border of Lesotho.
Visiting Fellow
As Visiting Fellow at the Harvard Divinity School, I worked with The Rev. Dr. Diane Moore and students to create strategies, programming, and curricular initiatives for public school teachers in order to explore the role of spirituality in the cultivation of values and the embrace of pluralism.
Consultant
As Consultant to the Alireza Family Foundation, which established innovative schools in Saudi Arabia, I created pluralistic approaches to curricular development. Special projects included:
- Dar al-Fikr, Jeddah (grades 8-12), the only Saudi school to educate students in an English curriculum, and Dar al-Hikma, Jeddah (women’s college with American accreditation), to create educational models that combine intellectual inquiry with religious commitment.
- The Book Foundation, a charitable trust committed to the belief that education in spirituality is a pivotal process in the development of the full potential of the human being.
As Consultant to the East/West Institute, we established initiatives to educate Americans about Islam by connecting Muslim NGOs with major philanthropic organizations, i.e., Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation. We confronted misunderstandings through strategic communications, civil society engagement, and education.
Selected Publications / Speaking Engagements
Delivered keynote addresses about the universality of the Qur’an, at the Risooli Community Centre, Pretoria, South Africa, at the invitation of Shaykh Fadhlalla Haeri, 2012 and 2014.
